What is the M Gear Shift Position?

Your Toyota vehicle features an “M” or Manual shift lever position that you can use to step the transmission up or down through seven pre-programmed gears manually. Not sure how to operate this function? Our Toyota dealer near Houston will tell you how to properly use the “M” gear shift position.

How Can Houston Area Toyota Drivers Operate the "M" Gear Shift Position?

First, shift from “D” (Drive) to “M” (Manual). The shift indicator in the instrument panel will display the current gear. Simply push the lever to the plus position to up shift, or push the minus position to down shift. If a down shift causes the engine RPM to rise past redline, you can expect the system to remain in the current gear and two warning tones will sound.
