Toyota Remote Start FAQ
Remote start systems have become a useful tool to have for all drivers, but especially those who live in areas where the temperature has a habit of either getting a little too hot or a little too cold. Our service center serving Houston is here to answer questions such as, “how do I use my Toyota remote start?”
How do I use my Toyota Remote Start?
When using remote start, it’s important to make sure that your Toyota vehicle has remote start capability. In order to remotely start your Toyota, press the lock button on your key fob three times. Be sure to quickly press the lock button the first two times, while holding the button for about three seconds for the third time.
How long will my Toyota engine run after I activate Remote Start?
After remote start is activated, your Toyota will idle for about 10 minutes before automatically shutting down. Houston area drivers who are running late can press the lock button again sometime within those 10 minutes to have the car idle for another 10 minutes. If your Toyota idles for a full 20 minutes, it will shut down automatically and have to be manually restarted.

How close do I need to be to my car to use Remote Start?
You need to be within 80 ft of your car in order to use remote start. If you’re in an area where the signal may be blocked, this range may be shortened.
Why does my engine turn off when I open the door after I use remote start?
Don’t worry, this is normal! As a safety precaution against theft, your engine will automatically turn off once the door is opened. You can get in your car, restart the engine, and be on your way.
